20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Gore Verbinski's new horror thriller, A Cure for Wellness. The director hasn't directed a horror movie for quite some time, after tackling the beloved horror classic The Ring back in 2002. But A Cure for Wellness looks to be a return to his scary roots and this first trailer gives us a peek at his latest horror offering.

Prior to the release of this first trailer, which debuted during the latest episode of American Horror Story: Roanoke, the studio started a viral marketing campaign for the movie. The site ACureForWellness.com surfaced, where fans of the movie can begin their "treatment." The site offers meditative treatments that focus on the three elements Earth, Water and Air. In addition, several viral ad videos for the movie had been released in anticipation of this first trailer for A Cure For Wellness. Here is the official synopsis for the movie.

"An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure. From Gore Verbinski, the visionary director of The Ring, comes the new psychological thriller, A Cure for Wellness."

Gore Verbinski has largely avoided horror ever since The Ring and has moved on to directing massive tentpole movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, as well the disastrous reboot of The Lone Ranger. So it will be interesting for fans to see what he can bring to the horror genre after being away for so long and after working on very different, high-profile type projects. A Cure for Wellness will have some stiff competition upon release, as it will be going up against Matt Damon's monster flick The Great Wall, the Charlie Day and Ice Cube comedy Fist Fight as well as the highly anticipated Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower.

A Cure for Wellness is set to hit theaters on February 17, 2017. It is being directed by Gore Verbinski with a screenplay by Justin Haythe. The movie stars Dane DeHaan, Mia Goth, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, Susanne Wuest, Lisa Banes, Adrian Schiller, Ivo Nandi, Natalia Bobrich and Judith Hoersch.
