We haven't heard much on this Hellraiser remake for quite some time, and it turns out there is a good reason for that. Screenwriter Todd Farmer revealed that he and director Patrick Lussier couldn't see eye to eye with the studio on this project. Here's what Todd Farmer had to say below, when asked if he's still involved with the remake.

"I don't think so. We developed several versions for Dimension, but in the end we never saw eye to eye creatively. We wish them the best and look forward to seeing what they come up with."

Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier were actually set to take on Halloween 3D after they finished Drive Angry, although Dimension wanted them to work on Hellraiser instead. It seems the studio was pushing for a PG-13 rating, even though it is stipulated in the filmmakers' contracts that it be R-rated.

Yeah, before Drive Angry we pitched Halloween, Hellraiser, and Scanners to Bob Weinstein. We did our draft of Halloween right before we went off to do Drive Angry, then, right AFTER Drive Angry they asked us to do Hellraiser. Originally what they wanted was epic and dark, rated R. It was in our contract. So... if WE do Hellraiser, it's rated R; if they want to do PG-13 then they have to get rid of us."

Hellraiser was released in 2013.

And all of their alleged creativity is being used to remake oldies rather than invent new ones. And the studios are lame for pushing these PG-13 horror remakes.

@thedude1 You're exactly right. Horror movies, REAL horror, is not for kids. There's a reason the original was rated R, because it's brutal, twisted and sick. Leave it alone, unless you firmly believe you can improve on it, and make it even more twisted and sick.

@Sean-Ryan-Culligan No, Halloween and Friday the 13th don't work PG-13 either.

Awesome artwork! But I want this rated R...... PG-13 works for Jason and Micheal... but Hellraiser NEEDS to be R.

@jimthar Yes they are this damn stupid. This is the same company that has the brilliant idea to make the next Halloween movie a found footage movie like the Paranormal Activity movies.

how stupid does a studio need to be to know that this HAS to be rated R? i mean really? REALLY? are they that f*cking stupid??

These look epic and it is down right sad that Farmer and Lussier aren't going to be doing this remake. If anyone was going to touch this classic I would want it to be them.

But at fault here is Dimension Films. They have no idea what they are doing. First they release crappy Children of the Corn and Hellraiser sequels just to keep the right and now they are kicking out one of the best horror duos and trying to make Halloween into a found footage movie. Frankly it is down right criminal.

Is it just me or does the female reassemble one of the creatures from another Clive barker film nightbreed lol. Good concept work but I don't know what they where thinking of with pinhead looking like a mix between a lipstick and one hell of a vibrator which is quite good as hellraiser was a sexual yet fetish film giggity.
