HBO Films has cast Al Pacino in a biopic about imprisoned record producer Phil Spector, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The script was written by David Mamet.

The originator of the "Wall of Sound" production technique, Phil Spector was a pioneer of the 1960s girl group sound and produced over 25 Top 40 hits between 1960 and 1965 alone.

Phil Spector was convicted of second-degree murder last year in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson at his Alhambra, California home in 2003. The 70-year-old music mogul is currently serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life. Phil Spector will be 88 years old before becoming eligible for parole.
