According to London's Daily Record, "Taggart" TV star Alex Norton will be joining Johnny Depp and Co. in the Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel. Taggart was popular show in the UK that showed a Maryhill crime investigation unit solving crimes in the city of Glasgow.

The 55-year-old actor has landed a high-profile part, playing Edinburgh sea captain 'Sam Bellamy', in the big budget follow-up to the blockbuster, .

Despite securing the biggest role of his acting career, Alex says he'll be back behind his desk in Maryhill as DCI Matt Burke after filming with Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, which starts next month.

Speaking from his trailer on the Taggart set in Glasgow, Alex said:

"It's safe to say this is about as big as it gets. I've only just heard that I got the part of Captain Bellamy. I'm really excited."

North, who has starred in Hollywood hits Braveheart, Patriot Games and White Hunter Black Heart, as well as Local Hero and Gregory's Girl, said:

"I start filming in Los Angeles next month. We then head out to the Caribbean island of St Vincent in June and July. But there's no question of this being the end of Taggart for me."
