Alex Proyas has been hired to direct the Legendary Pictures adaptation of John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, according to Variety.

Alex Proyas will direct from an adapted screenplay by Stuart Hazeldine, which was rewritten from Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi's original adaptation. Lawrence Kasdan and Ryan Condal have also worked on the script.

Milton's original poem described the epic battle between archangels Michael and Lucifer. It was said that this new version would be an action movie with aerial battles, which could possibly be shot in 3D.

Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce the movie along with Vincent Newman.
