Earlier this month, production got under way on 20th Century Fox's highly-anticipated Alien: Covenant in Australia, under the direction of Ridley Scott. We've already seen one rather revealing photo from the set, which teases a connection to the director's 2012 sci-fi thriller Prometheus. And today we have yet another photo that reveals how the Weyland-Yutani corporation is involved in the story. Unfortunately, this image doesn't feature any of the actors on set, but it still is quite intriguing.

The photo was posted on the official Alien Anthology Twitter page yesterday, in celebration of Alien Day, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the 1986 sequel Aliens. The date, April 26, or 4/26, corresponded with the planet LV-426 where Aliens was set. The photo features the patch that all Covenant crew members will wear, which reveals that the Weyland-Yutani corporation is sponsoring this endeavor.

You may recall that, in 2012's Prometheus, the company was known as the Weyland Corporation, but it seems that sometime in the aftermath of that story, Weyland merged with Yutani, and the infamous Weyland-Yutani corporation was born. It's worth noting that, during Prometheus, Weyland CEO Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) and his daughter Meredith (Charlize Theron) were killed, which may have played a part in the Weyland-Yutani merger. We reported in December that Alien: Covenant will take place a decade after the events of Prometheus, which would place the movie around the year 2103, roughly 19 or 20 years before the original Alien.

Alien: Covenant centers on members of an intergalactic expedition, aboard the ship Covenant, who discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. They soon find that this planet is a dark and dangerous place, whose only inhabitant is David (Michael Fassbender), the sole surviving member of the Prometheus expedition. Back in November, director Ridley Scott teased that Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw, who was also alive at the end of Prometheus, will have a just a small role in Alien: Covenant, but there have been other reports that her role has been cut entirely.

Alien: Covenant also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez. Ridley Scott is directing from a script by Jack Paglen, Michael Green and John Logan. Take a look at latest photo from Alien: Covenant, and stay tuned for more as production continues in Australia.
