As production began to kick into gear on Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant, the filmmaker teased that this was a true prequel to his 1979 sci-fi horror classic Alien, and there would be some direct connections to that movie. Especially in terms of Sigourney Weaver's iconic character Ellen Ripley. Cut to a few months later, and Katherine Waterston was cast in the role of Daniels. At the time, we put two and two together to theorize that Daniels was actually Ripley's Mom. It was a guess on our part, but now that rumor has been confirmed!

Well, kind of. The very legitimate publication The Playlist ran a story today announcing that Waterson, who may be best known for her role in Inherent Vice and will next be seen in the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has landed a lead role in Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky. Towards the end of their story, they confirm that Daniels is Ripley's mom. Now, this may have been misinformation on their part, as a few other sites have speculated that the character will have blood ties to Ripley. But no sooner did they print this spoiler than they were asked to retract it by 20th Century Fox. They simply state the following.

"Spoiler removed at the request of the studio."

That pretty much confirms what we guessed a few months back. And it was just that, a guess, as no source had come forward with this information at the time. The Alien:Covenant story centers on the crew of the colony ship Covenant, who are bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, when they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. But it actually turns out to be a dark, dangerous world. And the sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Director Ridley Scott has for sure confirmed that Alien: Covenant will be the start of a whole new trilogy, which will eventually connect to his 1979 classic Alien. He also said that classic Alien creatures such as the egg, Facehugger, Chestburster and "the big boy" will all be back in Alien: Covenant. And he reiterated that Ripley will have some sort of presence looming over this latest thriller.

Back in May, 20th Century Fox shared the first official photo of Katherine Waterston as Daniels, offering no further details about the character. And you can definitely see a resemblance. Many have wondered if we'll actually get to see Baby Ripley in Alien: Covenant, because Ellen will have to be born before Daniels is dispatched. Other actors who are part of the Covenant crew include Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez. Now, the question will be raised. Who is Ripley's father. Please let it be Danny McBride. Ripley does have his curly hair.
