Production has been under way since late April on 20th Century Fox's highly-anticipated Alien: Covenant, and since then, we've already gotten a glimpse at a few set photos. We've previously seen the new Xenomorphs, a glimpse at how the Weyland-Yutani corporation connects to this movie, and our first look at Katherine Waterston as Daniels. Today we have yet another set photo, which features director Ridley Scott and gives us our first look at Michael Fassbender.

This photo surfaced on Twitter, which teases that Michael Fassbender's android David has managed to repair himself, after the events of Prometheus. At the end of Prometheus, this robot was beheaded, after one of the Engineers ripped it off, trying to kill him. We know that the story takes place roughly 10 years after the events of Prometheus, so David certainly had plenty of time to get his head on straight, literally.

The story follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, who are bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. They discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. Alien: Covenant starts a new prequel trilogy that will bridge the gap in the events between Prometheus and the original Alien. Michael Fassbender will be the only original Prometheus star returning, reprising his role as the android David, although there had been reports that Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw would come back in a small role.

Back in December, it was confirmed that iconic Alien creatures such as the Facehugger, Chestburster and Xenomorph will be appearing in the sequel. The cast also includes Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez. Ridley Scott is directing from a script by Jack Paglen, Michael Green and John Logan. Alien: Covenant has been slated for release on August 4, 2017, going up against Open Road Films' Blazing Samurai.

We learned late last year that the story is set a decade after the events of Prometheus. Last week, a long-standing rumor swirling around this movie was seemingly confirmed, when a news report claimed that Katherine Waterston is in fact playing the mother of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). This was never confirmed by the the studio, so we'll have to wait and see if it turns out to be true. In the meantime, take a look at the latest set photo from Alien: Covenant, as production continues in Australia.
