Amanda Seyfried is in negotiations to join the cast of A Million Ways to Die in the West, writer-director Seth MacFarlane's follow-up to last year's comedy blockbuster Ted.

The Western comedy follows a timid farmer who backs out of a gunfight, which causes his girlfriend (Amanda Seyfried) to leave him. He gets a chance at redemption after an outlaw's wife (Charlize Theron) agrees to teach him how to shoot. Seth MacFarlane is also starring, but it has not been confirmed if he will play the farmer or another supporting role.

Seth MacFarlane is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Scott Stuber is producing alongside Seth MacFarlane, with Media Rights Capital financing the picture. Production is scheduled to begin in May.
