If there was any doubt in your mind after watching The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as to why Marvel had to come in and save the franchise, former star Denis Leary might have the perfect answer. He starred as Captain George Stacy, father of Gwen, in The Amazing Spider-Man, where he met his untimely demise. And he returned in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a haunting vision who warns Peter Parker to stay away from his daughter. Now, Denis Leary has reveled that he was supposed to come back in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Only he wouldn't have been a tormented ghost. The actor explains to IGN the plan Sony had.

"Possibly in 3, there was this idea at one point that Spider-Man would be able to take this formula and regenerate the people in his life that had died. So, there was this discussion that Captain Stacy would come back even bigger in episode 3."

It is believed that the formula Denis Leary speaks of is Venom related. In the comic books, Gwen Stacy was brought back from the dead with a Carnage symbiote. But this plot does sound bizarre. And it sounds like Peter may have also brought back Gwen and his Uncle Ben. Not to mention Norman Osborn, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hinting that the original Green Goblin would return from the grave. This story would have certainly upset some fans of the series. Luckily, Marvel and Sony are now working to revive the franchise with a solo adventure in 2017, that will be preceded by Peter Parker's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which comes in Captain America: Civil War.
