CBS Films has offered Thor star Chris Hemsworth a whopping $10 million to star in their adaptation American Assassin. It isn't known if the actor plans on accepting the offer at this time.

The action-thriller is based on Vince Flynn's novel that centers on Mitch Rapp, the role Chris Hemsworth is being eyed for. The story follows his transition from a college athlete to a world-class operative for the CIA, who specializes in hunting terrorists. He joined the agency after his girlfriend died in a terrorist attack. The book is actually the 11th in Vince Flynn's series, although this is a prequel that will serve as Rapp's origin story. We reported last month that Bruce Willis is in talks to play Rapp's CIA mentor.

Jeffrey Nachmanoff is directing from a screenplay provided by Mike Finch, who took over the writing duties from Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.

It isn't known when production will begin, although scheduling may pose some problems if Chris Hemsworth signs on. He is currently shooting Thor: The Dark World, and is expected to move right from that to Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse. Of course, there is also The Avengers 2 looming in the distance.
