Six months after Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o signed on to star in and produce Americanah, David Oyelowo has joined the cast. The story is an adaptation of the novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Half of a Yellow Sun), which centers on a pair of Nigerian immigrants. The movie will follow their lifetime of struggles as their relationship grows stronger. The project is currently seeking a writer and director at this time.

Brad Pitt is producing through his Plan B Productions company, alongside Lupita Nyong'o and Andrea Calderwood (A Most Wanted Man). Lupita Nyong'o won an Oscar earlier this year for her portrayal in Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave, which Brad Pitt also starred in and produced. Plan B also produces the upcoming Selma, which stars David Oyelowo in his Golden Globe nominated performance as Martin Luther King. No production schedule was given at this time for Americanah.

Aside from starring in Selma, which opens on Christmas Day in limited release before expanding nationwide January 9, David Oyelowo also starred in the blockbuster Interstellar and in another awards season candidate, J.C. Chandor's A Most Violent Year, which opens on December 31. He also voices Agent Kallus on Disney XD's animated series Star Wars Rebels. The actor will next be seen in Captive alongside Kate Mara.
