Adventure Time Animated Movie Is Happening!

By B. Alan Orange — February 28th, 2015

Currently in its sixth season, with a seventh on the way, it was announced last night that Warner Bros. is bringing its hugely successful animated series Adventure Time to the big screen with the producers of The Lego Movie. The Adventure Time Movie will be animated, with Chris McKay and Roy Lee serving as the driving force behind the project.

Adventure Time is one of Cartoon Network's most popular original series. It follows the adventures of 12 year old Finn and his best friend Jake the Dog. The duo go on epic quests to protect their beloved land of Ooo, usually fighting off the evil Ice King, who is on a constant search for his Princess Bubblegum.

Chris McKay served as an executive producer on The Lego Movie and will direct The LEGO Batman Movie coming to theaters in 2017. He is also one of the creators of Adult Swim's stop-motion animated cult hit Robot Chicken. Roy Lee will produce The LEGO Batman Movie alongside Chris McKay.

Warner Bros. and series creator Pendleton Ward will be heavily involved in the writing and creation of the Adventure Time Movie. Warner Bros. sees Adventure Time as having huge franchise potential, as it appeals to a wide audience of children and adults, and has become a cultural phenomenon. Jon Berg and Cate Adams are overseeing the project for Warner Bros. It is also suspected that the movie will attract a wide array of celebrities looking to provide voice cameos. No production start or release date has been announced at this time, but we likely won't see the movie in theaters until 2017, when Adventure Time Season 8 is already set to air.
