First Point Break Remake Photos and Plot Details

By B. Alan Orange — April 22nd, 2015

Point Break is just the latest in a very long line of beloved films getting the remake treatment. And while these movies usually don't stand up to the original, there is a lot of enthusiasm for this high-octane action adventure coming out of this week's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the first footage was shown. Today, Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment have released the first photos. We finally get to see Luke Bracey as undercover FBI agent Johnny Utah, reprising the role Keanu Reeves inhabited way back in 1991. And then we get a look at Edgar Ramirez adopting the Bodhi persona, originally played by the late, great Patrick Swayze who turned the character into a surfing icon.

In addition to the images, which don't really revealed too much, we also have the official synopsis. This is following by some of the reactions coming out of CinemaCon, which is relatively positive, with some negativity thrown in for good measure. The film is relying on real 'extreme sports' for its thrills this time out, and will be screened in 3D when it hits theaters in December. Empire Magazine was on the scene, and reveals that the movie will not disappoint with its big wave riding, rock climbing and dirt bikes. There is also a major flight sequence that is said to blow the one in Transformers out of the water. Four men in airborne attire soar over forests and fields before hurtling through a deep gorge cut out of a mountain. The scene is all practical, with no CGI. There is also a mid-air heist where skydivers steal money from a plane mid-flight. Its all supposed to be spectacular. Here is the synopsis, followed by the photos and reactions:

In Alcon Entertainment's fast-paced, high-adrenaline action thriller "Point Break," a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill seeking elite athletes, led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a string of staggering crimes that kill innocent people and send the world's economy into a tailspin. Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the callous architects of these inconceivable crimes. The film is replete with the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture. These action adventure feats are performed by extreme athletes representing the world's best in class in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flying, sheer-face snowboarding, free rock climbing, and high-speed motorcycling.
