Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess and Ryan Kwanten Join Kidnapping Freddy Heineken

By Brian Gallagher — October 8th, 2013

Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess and Ryan Kwanten have signed on to star alongside Anthony Hopkins in Kidnapping Freddy Heineken.

The plot is based on the true story of Dutch beer mogul Alfred "Freddy" Heineken (Anthony Hopkins), who was kidnapped along with his driver Ab Doderer in 1983. They were both released after the ransom of a whopping 35 Dutch guilders was paid, which is the equivalent of $50 million today. The abductors were eventually caught and prosecuted. It isn't known what characters these new cast members will play. Tom Cocquerel and Mark van Eeuwen are also starring in unspecified roles.

Daniel Alfredson (The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) is directing from a script by William Brookfield (Rough Magic), based on Peter L. de Vries' non-fiction book that has been a best-seller in the Netherlands for more than 20 years.

Judy Cairo, Michael A. Simpson and Howard Meltzer are producing. Production is scheduled to begin later this month in Belgium, before shooting shifts to Amsterdam and New Orleans.
