The Huntsman: Sam Claflin Will Return as William

By Brian Gallagher — May 8th, 2015

Sam Claflin, who played Snow White's (Kristen Stewart) love interest William in 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, will be returning for the upcoming prequel The Huntsman. The casting is somewhat surprising, though, since Kristen Stewart is not coming back as Snow White. In the original, it was William's kiss that broke Snow White's spell, but in the sequel, William is only said to have a small, supporting role.

The plot is set before Snow White and the Huntsman, centering on how The Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and Ravenna (Charlize Theron) first crossed paths, long before either of them met Snow White. Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, Nick Frost, Rob Brydon, Alexandra Roach and Sheridan Smith also star in the prequel. It isn't known if the production is eyeing other Snow White and the Huntsman stars to return for this new adventure.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing from a screenplay by Frank Darabont, with earlier drafts written by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Joe Roth is producing, with Palak Patel executive producing. It isn't known when production may begin, but Universal has already set an April 22, 2016 release date. We reported last month that Sam Claflin was being eyed for a role in Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. He recently starred in The Riot Club and he will next be seen in Me Before You.
