Solace Trailer Takes Anthony Hopkins Inside the Mind of a Killer

By Brian Gallagher — November 10th, 2016

Take a trip inside a killer's mind with the official domestic trailer for Lionsgate Premiere's Solace. The intense crime thriller starring Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Abbie Cornish and Colin Farrell hits theaters and on-demand December 16th. The studio has also released the first poster for this thriller, which could shake up the crowded holiday movie season.

This crime thriller is entering a packed holiday frame, arriving on the same day as Disney's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Warner Bros.' Collateral Beauty and STX Entertainment's The Space Between Us. Just five days later on December 21, 20th Century Fox's Assassin's Creed, Paramount's Passengers and Universal's Sing. 20th Century Fox's Why Him opens on December 23, with Paramount's Fences and The Weinstein Company's Gold opening on Christmas Day.

When FBI Special Agent Joe Merriwether (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is unable to solve a series of homicides, he decides to enlist the help of his former colleague Dr. John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins), a retired physician with psychic powers. The reclusive Clancy, who shuttered his practice and retreated from the world following the death of his daughter and subsequent break-up of his marriage, wants nothing to do with the case. He soon changes his mind after seeing disturbingly violent visions of Joe's partner, FBI Special Agent Katherine Cowles's (Abbie Cornish) ultimate demise.

When Clancy's exceptional intuitive powers put him on the trail of a suspect, Charles Ambrose (Colin Farrell), the doctor soon realizes his abilities are no match against the extraordinary powers of this vicious murderer on a mission. The supporting cast includes Xander Berkeley, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Matt Gerald and Marley Shelton. With just over a month left until Solace hits theaters, it remains to be seen how much more footage will be released between now and then.

Alfonso Poyart directs Solace from a script by Sean Bailey and Ted Griffin. The project has been in development for several years, with Mark Pellington once attached to direct, and Sean Bailey moved on from being a writer and producer, to becoming Disney's president of production. Take a look at the trailer and poster below from Lionsgate's upcoming thriller Solace.
