War on Everyone Trailer Teams Pena & Skarsgard as Corrupt Cops

By Brian Gallagher — August 12th, 2016

Beloved filmmaker John Michael McDonagh, who has won fans around the world for his first two films, The Guard and Cavalry, returns to the big screen this year, crossing the pond to tell his first American story in War on Everyone. As of now, this movie doesn't have a US release date, although it will hit UK theaters on October 7. Today we have the first UK trailer for War On Everyone, which could be the film that dark comedy fans have been waiting all year for.

Award-winning writer-director of The Guard and Cavalry, John Michael McDonagh crosses the globe for his much-anticipated third film, a jet-black action comedy starring Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña and Theo James. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Terry Monroe (Skarsgård) and Bob Bolaño (Peña) are two corrupt cops who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate someone who is more dangerous than they are. Or is he?

Known for his distinctively witty sensibility and confrontational humor, McDonagh previously wrote and directed the acclaimed drama Calvary, starring Brendan Gleeson, and offbeat comedy The Guard, also starring Gleeson alongside Don Cheadle, which became a worldwide sleeper hit. War On Everyone is the director's third film, which was picked up by Icon Films Distribution and Saban Films after winning over audiences at the Berlin International Film Festival and the South By Southwest Film Festival earlier this year.

War On Everyone stars Alexander Skarsgård (Tarzan, Melancholia, True Blood), Michael Peña (Ant-Man, Fury, End of Watch) and Theo James (Insurgent, Divergent). Joining in supporting roles are Tessa Thompson (Selma, Dear White People), Malcolm Barrett (The Hurt Locker, My Best Friend's Girl), Caleb Landry Jones (X Men: First Class), Paul Reiser (Concussion, Whiplash), Stephanie Sigman (Spectre, Miss Bala) and David Wilmot (The Guard, Calvary, '71). John Michael McDonagh directs from his own original screenplay.

Chris Clark and Flora Fernandez Marengo produce War On Everyone, with Elizabeth Eves co-producing for Reprisal Films. Phil Hunt and Compton Ross also produce for Head Gear Films, with the support of the BFI Film Fund. Take a look at the first trailer for War On Everyone, and stay tuned for more on this dark comedy. We also have a red band trailer below, which should only be watched by viewers over the age of 18.
