X-Men 2 Trailer Gets a Logan Fan Edit and It's Amazing

By B. Alan Orange — October 25th, 2016

It's hard to imagine now, in this over-saturated superhero movie landscape, but when the first X-Men arrived in 2000, it came as a saving grace for the genre. And is still considered a groundbreaking film on a lot of levels. The sequel followed just three years later, and many still consider it one of, if not, the best of the early superhero sequels, comparable perhaps only to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, which was released the following year. Now, one enterprising fan is paying tribe to X-Men 2 with a new fan cut trailer, and it's pretty cool.

Just one week after its release, many fans are calling the new Logan trailer the best X-Men trailer ever released. It shows us an aging Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman as his swan song, and it is set to the haunting Johnny Cash classic 'Hurt'. Now, one fan has decided to make the ultimate mash-up, by combining the ultimate X-Men movie with the ultimate X-Men movie trailer, and the results are nothing short of amazing.

Seeing Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart set to the backdrop of Johnny Cash in X2: X-Men United is special in its own right, even if we do get the later, albeit much older, Stewart in the real deal trailer. Freelance video editor Sam Ibrahim put this sneak peek together and shared it on Youtube. What would possess him to do such a thing? He says this about his tiny little project that is getting a lot of attention this morning.

"Ladies and gentlemen my favourite Xmen movie of all time is No 2, so naturally when Logan came out I had to edit X2 to some Johnny Cash. This is Hugh Jackman's last appearance as Logan, so it felt like a fitting tribute. I hope you enjoy it."

You can see for yourself in the video below that the results are pretty great. And adding Johnny Cash's cover of Nine inch Nails adds a certain layer of sparrow over the entire proceedings. Is X-Men really the saddest superhero franchise in the genre? That's kind of hard to argue with the R-rated antics of the hilarious Deadpool still making waves nine months after it came out. Though, with its overly somber tone, we doubt we'll be seeing the Merc with the Mouth show up in this final Wolverine movie. Check out the X-2: Logan Style Trailer.
