Ever since James Cameron decided on directing Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 instead of taking on the huge task of directing Angelina Jolie in the historical epic Cleopatra, Columbia Pictures has been on the lookout for a director.

Today, while in Cannes, Angelina Jolie confirmed that David Fincher is in talks to take on this mammoth production. The director is currently in the midst of post-production on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, though, and its not clear how soon he will tackle the follow-up remake of The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Its very possible that Cleopatra could come between the two Stieg Larsson adaptations. This is what Angelina Jolie had to say.

"Yes, we just don't know. It's all very early. David Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do."

An actual announcement on Cleopatra isn't expected too soon, and this historical biopic probably won't be in theaters until at least 2014.
