Anne Hathaway has taken the lead in an upcoming adaptation of a historical novel written by Charlotte Rogan titled The Lifeboat.

The story centers on the young newlywed Grace Winter, who was aboard the transatlantic ship Empress in 1914. After an explosion, the ship starts sinking and she makes it onto a life boat. The rescue vessel is overcrowded and the group plots among themselves to see who is going to stay on the boat. Three weeks later, they are rescued and the woman is put on trial for murder.

The project is currently seeking a director with Anne Hathaway producing alongside Working Title's Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Liza Chasin. Apollo 13 scribe William Broyles Jr. is writing the script.

Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her performance in Les Miserables and will next be seen in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller Interstellar. No production date has been released.
