The CW Network has added yet another actor to its Arrow / Flash Spinoff cast, bringing aboard Doctor Who star Arthur Darvill to play DC Comics character Rip Hunter. We reported earlier this month that the spinoff will feature three characters from the DC Comics who have never been featured on a TV show before, with Rip Hunter being the second of these mystery roles to be cast. Here's the description of his character, previously known as "The Traveler," from this month's earlier report.

"Described as a "Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances."

The news comes just hours after the spinoff cast Ciara Renee as Kendra Saunders, a.k.a. Hawkgirl. While Kendra Saunders has never been featured on a TV series, a different version of Hawkgirl, Shayera Hall, has been featured in Smallville and in the animated series Justice League. Deadline is now confirming that Ciara Renee's Hawkgirl will be one of the three mystery roles, alongside Arthur Darvill's Rip Hunter and a third character known simply as "Mystery Hero," who has yet to be cast.

Arthur Darvill joins Brandon Routh as Atom, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Victor Garber as one half of Firestorm and Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave. Caity Lotz, who played Sara Lance, a.k.a. Black Canary on Arrow, has also been cast, but it remains unclear if she will reprise that role, since she was killed in the show's Season 3 premiere. Arthur Darvill is best known for playing Rory Williams on Doctor Who and Rev. Paul Coates on Broadchurch, and he most recently had an arc on Starz's The White Queen.
