When an Arrow and The Flash spinoff was announced back in February, most assumed it was a surefire lock to get a series order, since it will include characters from both of The CW's hit shows. Today, the network made it official, issuing a series order and unveiling the official title for the spinoff, DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Take a look at the official plot description below:

When heroes alone are not enough... the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat - one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known? The cast includes Victor Garber (The Flash); Brandon Routh (Arrow); Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who); Caity Lotz (Arrow); Dominic Purcell (The Flash) and Wentworth Miller (The Flash).

Other cast members include Ciara Renee as Hawkgirl and Franz Drameh in an unknown role. Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter are serving as executive producers for DC's Legends of Tomorrow. We reported earlier this month that the spinoff won't debut until midseason, sometime in January 2016. Another mystery about the series that has yet to be solved is the role of Caity Lotz, who played the original Black Canary on Arrow before she was killed off in the Season 3 premiere. Given the time travel elements present in this story, it's possible that Rip Hunter could go back in time and save her before her untimely demise, but that has yet to be confirmed. It's also possible, since the show is debuting in midseason, that Rip Hunter could show up on both Arrow and The Flash to recruit these characters.
