Greg Berlanti, who currently serves as executive producer and showrunner on the hit CW series Arrow, has signed on to direct the sci-fi thriller Epsilon for Sony Pictures.

We first reported on this project back in September, when Sony acquired the spec screenplay from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland, G.I. Joe Retaliation). The story is set in the aftermath of a failed robot uprising, which has left most of the Earth without electricity. A group of robots take refuge on a space station, where they raise their own humans to do their bidding. The plot centers on a man who realizes he is more human that he previously believed.

Michael De Luca is producing alongside Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. No production schedule was given.

Greg Berlanti previously directed the romantic comedy Life as We Know It, and he worked on the screenplays for Green Lantern and Wrath of the Titans. He is better known in the TV world, where he created shows such as Everwood, Eli Stone, No Ordinary Family, and the mini-series Political Animals.
