Finally! Meet Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch in Assassin's Creed. New Regency and 20th Century Fox just revealed the first look at the actor in their upcoming video game adaptation. Thanks to Yahoo! Movies, we can better prepare for Assassin's Creed, which promises to be one of 2016's biggest blockbuster hits, and has the potential to ignite a franchise.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Assassin's Creed also stars Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard in the female lead.

Assassin's Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel. He collaborated with both Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard on the upcoming Shakespeare adaptation Macbeth, which makes this video game adaptation a reunion of sorts. The movie is produced by New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall. It is co-financed by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures; and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Assassin's Creed opens in theaters worldwide on December 21st, 2016, making it one of next year's most anticipated Christmas releases.

Hardcore fans may be wondering where Callum Lynch came from, and how he fits into the playable world of Assassin's Creed. Michael Fassbender's character was actually created specifically for the movie. The story here won't retell anything that has ever happened in the longstanding video game franchise. It is instead introducing a whole new world that just so happens to take place in this exact same universe. How that will sit with fans has yet to be determined.

Also starring in Assassin's Creed are Michael K. Williams and Ariane Labed. The photo of Michael Fassbender in costume was taken before he's had a chance to utter one line of dialogue as Callum Lynch. Principle photography doesn't begin until this Monday. Assassin's Creed will be shot on location in various countries including Malta, London and Spain. Take a look and let us know. Is this everything you we're hoping for in an Assassin's Creed movie?
