Later this year, an iconic video game comes to life on the big screen when Assassin's Creed hits theaters on December 21. Michael Fassbender stars as Callum Lynch, who discovers he's part of a long line of assassins. Earlier today, a new featurette surfaced, which takes fans behind the scenes and reveals that this production set a new world record with their "Leap of Faith" stunt.

This new preview surfaced on YouTube today, which features director Justin Kurzel explaining that he wanted to ground this video game adaptation in reality as much as possible. We also meet producer Patrick Crowley, who reveals that, normally, with a stunt as big as the Leap of Faith, it would be a digital character taking the leap. However, since stuntman Damien Walters is said to be "the best," they're doing this stunt for real. We also hear from producer Frank Marshall and get plenty of footage of this record-breaking jump of 125 feet, which is one of the highest free falls ever performed by a stuntman in the past 35 years.

Since production wrapped in January, we don't know exactly when this stunt was filmed, but this video reveals some of the preparations that took place for this Leap of Faith stunt to happen. To prepare for this stunt, stuntman Damien Walters first jumped from 70 feet, and then from 90 feet, before the record breaking jump of 125 feet. This video also reveals that Damien Walters will be falling at 61.1 miles per hour upon impact with the large inflatable mat. The story is about a revolutionary technology that unlocks genetic memories. Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Justin Kurzel directs from a screenplay by Scott Frank, Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Leslie.

Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, Michael K. Williams, Carlos Bardem, Denis Menochet, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons round out the supporting cast for Assassin's Creed, which started production this last August in Malta. It has already been confirmed that this adaptation will be set in the same universe as the video game series.
