‘Asteroids’ Gets Writer Jez Butterworth

Asteroids gets writer Jez Butterworth Universal Pictures has hired Jez Butterworth to re-write the adaptation to the classic arcade game Asteroids.

Plot details are being held under wraps, but it will be in the vein of the classic video game storyline. Matt Lopez and Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the first draft. Transformers and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra's Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be producing.

Jez Butterworth also wrote Doug Liman's Fair Game, The Last Legion and his own Birthday Girl. Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Gears of War are also being looked at for feature films.

Asteroids was released in 2014.
