Earlier today, Robert Downey Jr. posted a collage of photos on his official Facebook page dubbed "Superhero Sight Seeing," during a visit to New York City. The actor basically held up photos from Marvel's The Avengers and Captain America: The First Avenger, matching certain characters to actual New York locations they shot in. Oddly enough, one of the images is from Spider-Man 3, featuring Tobey Maguire and Stan Lee. Is Robert Downey Jr. hinting that Spider-Man is joining The Avengers?
Last month, it was rumored that Marvel and Sony are working on a deal to share the rights to Spider-Man, with a report surfacing one day later that confirmed "delicate conversations" are being holdo But fans are still several years away from Spider-Man bringing his web-slinging skills to The Avengers.
Sony's deal with Marvel states that the studio has to make a new Spider-Man movie every three years, or the rights revert back to Marvel. Even though The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was pushed back to 2018, the studio is currently working on The Sinister Six spinoff, which is considered to be Sony's last chance to revitalize the franchise, after the disappointing results of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sony will reportedly only enter "deep negotiations" to share Spider-Man with Marvel if that movie fails.
