Actor Wyatt Russell has become the latest to join the cast of the Lionsgate war drama AWOL. We reported last month that Liam Hemsworth and Teresa Palmer are headlining cast.

Jim Burnstein and Garrett K. Schiff wrote the screenplay, which is based on a true story that revolves around an American solider during the Vietnam War (Austin Stowell), who goes AWOL with his best friend (Liam Hemsworth) when his girlfriend (Aimee Teegarden) dumps him. They both go on a journey back to America so Austin Stowell's character can try to win back his girlfriend. No character details were given for Wyatt Russell's role.

Danny Mooney is making his feature directorial debut with AWOL. Production is slated to begin in the near future, on location in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Wyatt Russell, the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, will next be seen in Cowboys & Aliens, which hits theaters on July 29.
