Forgiveness has to be earned in the new trailer for the third season of Barry, starring beloved comic actor Bill Hader. The Emmy award-winning series returns for a third adventure next month on HBO Max, picking up with the titular struggling hitman as he tries to come to terms with who he is, and whether he can ever leave his criminal life behind. First airing back in 2018, Barry introduces audiences to Barry Berkman, played by Superbad and It Chapter Two star Bill Hader, a discharged Marine from Cleveland, who makes his living as a hitman. Lonely and dissatisfied with life, Barry travels to Los Angeles to kill a target and ends up "finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene". Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, Barry can’t stop his bloody former life from catching up with him.

Created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, Barry stars an ensemble cast that includes the likes of, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Glenn Fleshler, Anthony Carrigan, Henry Winkler, and Sarah Burns. The first two seasons of Barry have been met with wide critical acclaim thanks to its cast, writing, the balance of humor with hitman shenanigans, and its legitimately likable characters. Barry currently sits at a hugely impressive 99% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

Due to the various real-world issues and circumstances, audiences will have been waiting three long years by the time the third season of Barry comes around. Considering how dramatically season 2 wrapped up, the show’s return cannot come quickly enough. Thankfully, those behind Barry have used this time well. There will be more to come following the upcoming third season, with star Bill Hader revealing that Season 4 has already been written.

"Season 3 is completely written, ready to go, and then during this time, we actually went and wrote Season 4, so we have both of those kind of done,” the actor explained last year. “So we're just waiting until we can start shooting again."
