Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Gal Gadot is in early talks to take the female lead in MGM's upcoming reboot Ben-Hur.

Jack Huston is set to star as the title character, who is betrayed by his former best friend Messalla (Toby Kebbell), and sold into slavery. Ben-Hur embarks on a quest for justice, joining forces with Morgan Freeman's character, who teaches him to become a champion chariot racer. If her deal is finalized, Gal Gadot will play a slave named Esther, whom Ben-Hur falls in love with.

Timur Bekmambetov is directing from a screenplay by Keith R. Clarke, with John Ridley providing the most recent script revisions. The story is said to be much more faithful to the original Lew Wallace novel, featuring the parallel story of Jesus Christ, which was not included in the original 1959 Ben-Hur movie.

Son of God producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett are producing alongside Sean Daniel and Joni Levin. Production is slated to begin in Europe early next year.

It was announced today that Gal Gadot will star in her own Wonder Woman movie, arriving in 2017, one year after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters. She will next be seen in the crime thriller Triple Nine.
