According to Variety, Benderspink, writer-director Michael Patwin, Ben Katz Prods. and Dave Brown are producing Hereafter, centered on the aftermath of December's Asian tsunami disaster, with lensing to start soon in Indonesia.
Hereafter follows an American man who walks barefoot for 70 miles to find his estranged wife and children after the tsunami.
Patwin was inspired to write the story by reading news coverage about locals walking to find their loved ones. "This is a story of salvation, a tale of a man who realizes exactly what he's lost during his search to find it," he said.
Patwin said the low-budget project will focus on the truth of the locale. "Working with a skeleton crew will allow us to do just that, to tell a small story that captures a greater historical moment, like The Battle of Algiers or Medium Cool," he said.
Producers plan to donate a significant portion of pic's proceeds to disaster relief orgs.
