Benicio Del Toro has joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy to play an unidentified but pivotal character who will be included in future Marvel movies.

The Oscar-winning actor joins a cast that includes Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Michael Rooker (Yondu), along with Lee Pace, Ophelia Lovibond, Glenn Close and Karen Gillan. Lee Pace is believed to be playing the main villain known as The Collector, although that has not been confirmed at this time.

There have been no clues as to who Benicio Del Toro is playing in Guardians of the Galaxy , but two unfilled roles are Rocket Raccoon and Thanos, both heavy hitters in this franchise. Right now, fans are leaning towards Rocket Raccoon because of the actor's unique take on delivering dialogue, which might fit in perfectly for a talking raccoon from space. What do you think?

James Gunn is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman. We reported in January that production will begin this summer at Shepperton Studios in London.

Benicio Del Toro recently starred in Savages, and will next be seen in Jimmy P., Paradise Lost, and Inherent Vice.
