The two shows in the Breaking Bad universe will intersect in the final episodes of Better Call Saul, as it has already been announced that Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) will be showing up for special appearances. It remains to be seen how exactly the two are featured in the story, and whether they'll be younger versions of the Breaking Bad characters or if they'll be shown in flash-forward sequences.

In any case, fans were not supposed to know about the cameos at all before they aired on television, at least that was the original plan. In a new interview with the Albuquerque Journal, Cranston and Paul spoke about how difficult it was for them to maintain the secret. Ahead of the premiere of season 6, however, series showrunner Peter Gould had revealed that Walt and Jesse would appear in the series, and though he didn't say which episode, it had Cranston and Paul wondering why they went through all that effort to keep the cameos a surprise.

“We’re excited to be back (in Albuquerque). We really are,” Paul told the publication. “Because the last time we were back, we had to keep it secret, you know? We were locked inside of our rentals.”

Cranston added, "We were asked to keep it a secret forever. We were flown in under the darkness of night. We took this plane and they went to a certain private section of the airport there. And then we took like two steps out of the tarmac and into an SUV. They move us to an Airbnb – a duplex. He had the top floor. I had the bottom floor and we were told you can’t leave.”

“It’s so funny that because this was supposed to be a big surprise, a big secret,” Paul said. “Then all of a sudden they announced that we were doing it, so why did they keep us in a prison? Seriously, they were just messing with us.”

The city of Albuquerque will immortalize the Walter White and Jesse Pinkman characters with statues that will soon be erected. The statues will be installed at the Albuquerque Convention Center after they were donated by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. Cranston and Paul will personally appear at Isotopes Park on July 30 to host a silent auction of donated items from Breaking Bad with proceeds going to the New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers and the Children's Cancer Fund of New Mexico.

Fans can also see the characters on television one last time thanks to their upcoming cameos on Better Call Saul. With no other Breaking Bad spinoffs in the works, this very well could be the final time Cranston and Paul portray the popular characters they first appeared as in the first season of Breaking Bad back in 2008.

New episodes of Better Call Saul arrive on Mondays on AMC and AMC+.
