Over the weekend, Disney held the world premiere for its long-awaited adaptation The BFG at the Cannes Film Festival, ahead of its release in theaters on July 1. Last week, we showed you a new video where director Steven Spielberg was asked trivia questions about his own movies by The BFG's young star, Ruby Barnhill, although that video didn't include any new footage. If you've been craving another sneak peek at this adaptation of Roald Dahl's literary classic, then you're in luck, because today we have a new trailer and poster.

The new trailer, which debuted on the Disney Movie Trailers YouTube page today, which gives us our best look at the massive giant yet, portrayed through motion capture by recent Oscar winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), and breakout star Ruby Barnhill, who makes her feature film debut in The BFG, after starring in six episodes of the TV series 4 O'Clock Club. This actress could very well be the latest star discovery from director Steven Spielberg, who helped launch the careers of stars like Drew Barrymore in E.T. and Vin Diesel in Saving Private Ryan, who went on to star in the cult classic Pitch Black just two years after his small role in the director's World War II classic.

Roald Dahl's The BFG was first published in 1982 and has been enchanting readers of all ages ever since. Roald Dahl's books, which also include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and Matilda, are currently available in 58 languages and have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. The BFG is the only book of Roald Dahl's that has never been adapted into a feature film, until now.

The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie's presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist.

Directed by three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Melissa Mathison based on the best-selling novel by Roald Dahl, The BFG stars three-time Tony Award and two-time Olivier Award winner Mark Rylance, newcomer Ruby Barnhill, Penelope Wilton, Jemaine Clement, Rebecca Hall, Rafe Spall and Bill Hader. The BFG hits theaters nationwide on July 1, going up against Universal's The Purge: Election Year, Warner Bros.' The Legend of Tarzan and Sony's The Shallows. Take a look at the new trailer and poster for The BFG, and stay tuned for more on this adaptation as we get closer and closer to its summer release date.
