Warner Bros. has revealed a new image from Birds of Prey featuring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Robbie, meanwhile, has also opened up a bit about her character's break-up with the Joker, which will be an important plot thread in the upcoming DC Comics adaptation. But, as is the case in real life, as Robbie puts it, their separation is going to be a messy one, not a clean break.

Starting with the image, it focuses on Harley Quinn, who is rocking one of her more over-the-top looks that we've seen so far. Harley will be looking very different than when we last saw her in Suicide Squad. Here, she's got a pink top, shorts, sleeves that look like they are made of pom-poms and hair up in pigtails. She looks like she could be getting ready to go to a rave. In the background, there is an explosion and, given the smile on Harley's face, one has to imagine she had something to do with it.

When last we saw Harley, Jared Leto's Joker was breaking her out of jail at the end of Suicide Squad. What happened between then and now? What prompted Harley to finally call things off with Mr. J? Those questions probably won't be answered until Birds of Prey hits theaters, but Margot Robbie had this to say about it.

"She's trying to own it. That felt like a real way to deal with a break-up. It's not clean and easy to be a strong woman. It's so hard. She's a bit more Courtney Love than Debbie Harry this time. She says, 'I'm single, I don't need him, f*** that guy.' But if the Joker were to text her, 'You up?' she'd run. She'd fall to pieces."

Birds of Prey looks to keep DC Films' hot streak going. Following the release of Justice League, the studio has had luck with Aquaman, Shazam and Joker. Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is in the director's chair, working from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee). This will be the first R-rated movie in the DCEU. While Joker was also R-rated, it exists in its own universe. It also happens to have a relatively low budget, said to be in the $75 million range, making it less risky financially for Warner Bros.

The Birds of Prey cast also includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz and Ewan McGregor as Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco rounds out the ensemble as Cassandra Cain. DC also has several other major projects coming down the pipeline over the next few years including Wonder Woman 1984, The Batman, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam and Shazam 2. Birds of Prey is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2020. Be sure to check out the new image from Empire for yourself below.
