Despite director Sam Mendes turning down the offer to direct Bond 24, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are confident the director will be back for another 007 movie in the future, even if its not Bond 24.

Here's what Barbara Broccoli had to say.

"We will get him back. We haven't given up hope... Maybe not for the next one... but we will get him back again."

Michael G. Wilson adds that they are continuing to try and persuade him to come back into the fold for another James Bond adventure.

"We are working on him. We hope that maybe he will have gotten inspired to come back."

Sam Mendes himself said he has left the door open to come back, but, at the moment, he is committed to several theater projects.

"Bond movies, they need someone working on it now. I'm doing my theater projects and then I'll work it out. I've definitely left the door open though. I've never really repeated myself, done the same type of movie one after the other, so just give me a chance to think about what I actually want to say."

Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw are all reprising their roles from Skyfall for the next 007 adventure, though a director hasn't been hired yet. There is a very slim chance that the production will be put on hold long enough for Sam Mendes to finish his theater work and return.
