Universal Pictures' Untitled Matt Damon Bourne Sequel has found its villain, with Variety reporting that Vincent Cassel has signed on to play Jason Bourne's (Matt Damon) main enemy. The site reveals that Vincent Cassel is playing an assassin who is tracking Jason Bourne. On Friday, Matt Damon himself revealed that shooting begins sometime this week, but this report claims that production will start "later this summer."

No specific plot details have been given, but Matt Damon revealed last week that the story is set in a "post-Snowden world," with the main action taking place in a "austerity-riddled Europe." Edward Snowden was the CIA analyst who leaked confidential documents outlining the U.S. government's tactics for spying on the American public. The actor also confirmed that filming will begin in Greece, ending in Las Vegas. The main themes of this plot will revolve around spying on the public, civil liberties and democracy in general.

Vincent Cassel joins a cast that also includes Julia Stiles, reprising her role as Nicky Parsons from the original Bourne trilogy, along with new casting additions Alicia Vikander and Tommy Lee Jones. You may recall that, in 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, before his bout with amnesia, Nicky hinted that she was romantically involved with Jason Bourne. It remains to be seen if that plot line will continue in this action-thriller.

Paul Greengrass is directing and co-writing the script with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall and Jeffrey M. Weiner are producing, with Universal already setting a July 29, 2016 release date. The film currently doesn't have any direct competition, but it will open one week after 20th Century Fox's  Ice Age: Collision Course and Warner Bros.' Knights of the Round Table, and one week before Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad.

Vincent Cassel most recently starred in Child 44. He also lends his voice to The Fox in the upcoming animated feature The Little Prince.
