Fresh off his live-action directorial debut Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird has signed on to direct 1952 for Walt Disney Pictures.

We first reported on this project back in June, when Damon Lindelof signed a seven-figure deal to write the screenplay. No plot details have been revealed, except it will be a big-budget tentpole with additional multi-platform applications. Damon Lindelof is co-writing the screenplay with Jeff Jensen.

Disney is hoping that Brad Bird will make this his next feature, with the studio eyeing a 2013 production start. The filmmaker also has 1906 in development at Pixar, although it isn't known when that might be moving forward.
