CBS Films is gearing up to remake one of the longest-running TV shows of all time, and now two names have emerged to play the lead. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Brad Pitt is the top contender to star in the Gunsmoke remake, with Ryan Reynolds on the list of candidates as well.

Whoever gets the job would portray Marshall Matt Dillon, a role that James Arness played for 20 years on the CBS TV series Gunsmoke, which ran from 1955 to 1975. It was said that several other actors are in contention for the part, but the fact that a director hasn't signed on to the film has complicated the situation even more.
