We reported back in February that New Line Cinema was moving forward on an Escape From New York remake and now they have found a director. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Breck Eisner has signed on to direct the remake of Escape From New York.

Eisner, who directed The Crazies remake earlier this year, will be directing from a script by Allan Loeb, which was said to be a hybrid of an origin story for the classic anti-hero Snake Plissken while also staying true to the story of John Carpenter's original 1981 film.

The original Escape From New York took place in a dystopian 1997 where all of Manhattan was turned into a prison reserved for the criminal elite and, when the current President's plane crashes on the island, Plissken was forced into undertaking a rescue mission.
