According to Variety, Brian Robbins is in negotiations to direct the Eddie Murphy comedy Norbit at DreamWorks. Robbins' producing partner at Tollin/Robbins, Michael Tollin, is coming aboard to produce the pic with John Davis and Murphy.

Helmer replaces Rawson Marshall Thurber, who dropped out over a scheduling conflict.

Shooting is skedded to start in March.

In the pic, Murphy stars as Norbit, a meek guy pressed into marrying a monstrous woman (also played by Murphy). When he subsequently meets the woman of his dreams, he has to figure out a way to be with her.

Original script was written by Eddie and Charlie Murphy, with a rewrite by Guess Who scribes Jay Scherick and David Ronn.

John Fox oversees the project at the studio.

Robbins is directing Disney's upcoming Tim Allen remake of The Shaggy Dog. Tollin/Robbins recently produced DreamWorks' Dreamer, starring Kurt Russell and Dakota Fanning.
