Bryan Singer was confirmed to be returning to the world of Marvel Comics today with the recent announcement that he will be directing X-Men: First Class. Now, The Hollywood Reporter is announcing that Singer has hired scribe Jamie Moss to write the screenplay.

Singer revealed the news during a recent red carpet interview for James Cameron's Avatar. This fifth film in the hugely successful X-Men franchise will follow the teenage years of Professor Xavier's most prominent mutant students. New characters will be created for the project. Moss' script will be based on a mini-series written by Jeff Parker. The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz wrote the first draft of the film.

X-Men: First Class is eyeing a Summer 2011 release date.
