Early next year, genre fans will be introduced to a new horror icon when The Bye Bye Man hits theaters. Following the first trailer from April, STX Entertainment has debuted the second trailer, which delves into the terrifying history of this title character, and what he can do to the victims who merely say or think his name.

People commit unthinkable acts every day. Time and again, we grapple to understand what drives a person to do such terrible things. But what if all of the questions we're asking are wrong? What if the source of all evil is not a matter of what...but who? When three college friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, they discover that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don't think it, don't say it. But once the Bye Bye Man gets inside your head, he takes control. Is there a way to survive his possession?

From the producer of The Strangers and Oculus comes The Bye Bye Man, a chilling horror-thriller that exposes the evil behind the most unspeakable acts committed by man. STX Entertainment debuted this new trailer today, which reveals that The Bye Bye Man is always lurking somewhere nearby. The cast includes Carrie-Anne Moss, Douglas Smith, Faye Dunnaway, Michael Trucco and Doug Jones as the title character.

The supporting cast for this horror-thriller includes Lucien Laviscount, Cressida Bonas, Erica Tremblay, Cleo King, Marisa Echeverria and Jenna Kanell. Stacy Title (The Last Supper) directs from a screenplay by Jonathan Penner (Let the Devil Wear Black), based on the short story by Robert Damon Schneck. STX Entertainment has given The Bye Bye Man a January 13, 2017 release date.

The Bye Bye Man will be going up against another horror movie, Paramount's Friday the 13th remake, but that movie will most likely be delayed again since production hasn't begun yet. The movie will also go up against 20th Century Fox's Hidden Figures, Warner Bros.' Live By Night and Paramount's Monster Trucks. Take a look at the new footage from The Bye Bye Man.
