Director Jon M. Chu and his Chu Studios producing partner Hieu Ho have sold a 1990s high school dance comedy project entitled Can't Touch This to Focus Features.

No story details have been released, although the title is likely inspired by M.C. Hammer's 1990 hit song "U Can't Touch This." Jon M. Chu and Hieu Ho came up with the original idea for Can't Touch This, hiring The Goldbergs writers Annie Mebane and Stephen Basilone to pen the screenplay.

It isn't known yet if Jon M. Chu will direct the project himself, or when production will begin. The filmmaker recently wrapped production on Jem and the Holograms, which will be released next October, and he will next start shooting the upcoming sequel Now You See Me 2.

Jon M. Chu is no stranger to the dance genre, launching his directorial career with Step Up 2 the Streets and Step Up 3D. He has since become one of the most in-demand filmmakers in Hollywood, with his other credits including Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, G.I. Joe Retaliation and Justin Bieber's Believe.

Annie Mebane and Stephen Basilone previously wrote for Community, Happy Endings and The Michael J. Fox Show.
