‘Captain America 2’ Will Be Set in Present Day

Captain America 2 will be set in present dayCaptain America: The First Avenger screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are currently working on the script for Captain America 2. The writers recently revealed the sequel will be primarily set in present day. Here's what Stephen McFeely had to say about the sequel below.

"I think it's safe for us to say that it's primarily set in the modern day. That seems to have been the biggest question people have been wondering about regarding the sequel. Most people know the story of Captain America as the story of this man out of time, and because The Avengers is such a big movie, and because [The Avengers director] Joss Whedon has so many moving pieces, we've been left with room to explore Cap entering the modern day wondering, 'What is all this? What's happened to the world" and so on.'

Christopher Markus added that now the character is established, they can take Captain America to new places in the sequel.

"We made a movie where the world was in context for Steve Rogers. It was a movie where it was a more pure time, where there were clearly black-and-white, right-and-wrong, good-and-evil scenarios. And Cap is a guy who symbolizes that. Now he's in the now, and there is nothing black-and-white. So what do you do with that guy? How does he react to a much more uncertain time? So you're given this huge new palate to work with, but you can keep him the same. And that's the fun of getting to do a sequel. Captain America, Steve Rogers, he's pretty firmly established. Now we can take him through some different places."

Captain America: The First Avenger will be released on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD October 25.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released April 4th, 2014.

      @cupid - It might but since Iron Man is the most popular with the audience, I have a feeling that it might ending being more of a "Iron Man and Friends" movie then a Avengers movie. Plus, there are so many characters to focus on that it will be really hard to focus to much on each character.

        @moviemaniac66 We'll see, i still think the avengers will focus a lot more on him than any other because of his particular situation.

          @cupid - The Avengers isn't going to have complete focus on that. Captain America 2 will have more room to show how he adapts to his new surroundings and how he deals with all of his loved ones being either dead or just extrememly old. I will obviously see The Avengers, but Captain America adapting to the new world will most likely be focused more on in Captain America 2.

            I think this is a gret idea and was really hoping they would go this route.

              @Number1Wolverine

              That wouldn't work because his past is basically during the first Captain America movie, in other words meaning before the present time.

                  Would like it if they crossover Cap and Black Panther like they did in the Marvel Knights series

                        Now that the question of "when" (as in when will it take place) has been answered, the real question now is "who"? Who is the villain gonna be for Capt to face off against in the sequel? Please... no MODOK or return of Red Skull.

                          It would have been cool to have flash backs of his past that leads to a problem that he has to resolve in the present, but it's all good go Cap.

                              @cupid Avengers will be a monster of a movie with many characters and plotlines, itd be nice to focus on Cap alone dealing with his situation as a man instead of a leader.

                                  @ejk1 I could be wrong, but didn't you at one point said that with all the missions and rescue operations he had in the first, they could have made a sequel around that?
