Chris Evans' run as Captain America will soon be over, with the actor currently locked into a 6 picture contract with Marvel. He's already shot two standalone movies, with Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and two team movies with Marvel's The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. His fifth film will be Captain America: Civil War, and he'll presumably be in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, but it is unclear if Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 is a continuation of 'one film' under his contract. However you slice it, though, someone will eventually have to step in and claim the shield. Will it be Anthony Mackie as Falcon? Or Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Solider?

Anthony Mackie recently chatted with Windy City Live, and talked a little bit about the passing of the shield, though he doesn't give a very definitive answer, instead extolling what we already know to be true in the comic books. He does point out that it is Sam Wilson who eventually keeps the shield, indicating he is the successor to the Captain America legacy.

"Well, you know there are many incarnations in the comic book, and we are now going into the Civil War. So, if you look at it in the comic book, Cap gives Bucky the shield, Bucky gives it back to Cap, Cap gives it to me... Then Bucky goes off and marries Black Widow, so I keep the shield, give it back to Cap, and recently Cap wanted to be old, so he gave me the shield back and now I got the shield; I'm not giving it back."

Anyone familiar with the Civil War storyline knows that Captain America is assassinated in the aftermath. Will Marvel play through this same plot on the big screen? And how will that ease itself into Avengers: Infinity War Part 1? These are questions no one is going to answer anytime soon. Anthony Mackie did chime in about his refurbished Falcon costume, which we'll be seeing in 2016. He states:

"The new Falcon suit is gonna be much better than the old Falcon suit."

As you can see, there isn't a whole lot of information to go on here. It isn't exactly known how the suit will be refurbished, or what new gadets it may include. What do you think about this ongoing question? Who should pick up the shield once Chris Evans steps down as Captain America? Do you want to see Bucky or Sam Wilson carry on the legend?
