After dominating at the box office this summer, with a whopping $1.1 billion haul during its theatrical run, Marvel is getting ready to bring Captain America: Civil War home with a Digital HD release on September 2 ahead of the Blu-ray and DVD debut on September 13. Earlier today, we showed you a deleted scene and two new previews that shed some light on Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Vision (Paul Bettany), who make up a small part of this massive ensemble cast. As it turns out though, directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo revealed that two different Marvel Comics characters were almost included in the movie.

When production started on Captain America: Civil War last May, Marvel Studios released a full cast list, which revealed the surprising news that Ant-Man star Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and William Hurt will reprise his role from 2008's The Incredible Hulk as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Of course, shortly after news of William Hurt's casting arrived, rumors spread that this character would transform into the Red Hulk, but that never happened. During an interview with ComicBook.com, the Russos revealed that possibility was on the table. Here's what Joe Russo had to say below, teasing that Red Hulk may in fact surface at some point.

"We had so many characters in that movie as it was. We consider everything, obviously, but with so many characters in that movie as it was to try and entertain adding another character and to get to the Red Hulk, you have to add a back story. You have to substantiate the narrative to get to that. [Thaddeus Ross], on our list of priorities, he was there sort of as the government's agenda and not to add another complicated super powered character to the mix. We spent the last six to eight months crafting stories around the cornucopia of characters at our disposal so anything is possible."

Many fans were hoping that the return of Thaddeus Ross could result in the Hulk vs. Red Hulk that many fans have been dying to see on the big screen. It's worth noting that the directors are currently prepping Avengers: Infinity War, which is said to feature upwards of 67 characters, and will reportedly unite the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. There may not be enough room in this massive adventure to feature a Hulk vs. Red Hulk battle, but who knows. Joe Russo also teased that they almost included the Iron Spider as well.

"Again, that falls in that category of anything's possible. We consider everything."

During the Sony hack, it was rumored that Spider-Man may use the Iron Spider suit that was featured in the 2006 Civil War comics, but that never happened. Still, with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Infinity War just around the corner, it's possible we could see Iron Spider at some point. Stay tuned for more updates on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as soon as more information arrives.
