Revenge star Emily VanCamp is in talks to play the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

No specific details were given about her character, although there is speculation that she may be playing Sharon Carter, the niece of Peggy Carter, who was portrayed by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger. In the Marvel comic books, Sharon joined the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, inspired by the stories she was told about her aunt and Captain America. Eventually, Sharon and Captain America ended up falling in love, although her work at S.H.I.E.L.D. put a strain on their relationship. It has already been confirmed that Hayley Atwell is not coming back as Peggy Carter in this sequel.

The actress joins a cast that already includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, and Toby Jones as Arnim Zola. Scarlett Johansson is also believed to be reprising her Black Widow role from Marvel's The Avengers in this sequel.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing this superhero sequel, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It isn't known when production will begin at this time.

Emily VanCamp is best known for her role on the current ABC hit series Revenge. She also starred in the TV shows Everwood and Brothers & Sisters, and appeared in films such as The Ring Two and Carriers.
