Casey Affleck will star in Race to the South PoleCasey Affleck is attached to star in the true-story drama Race to the South Pole for Warner Bros. and producers Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jennifer Todd.

Peter Glanz will write the screenplay, based on the true story of the race between an English explorer Robert Falcon Scott (Casey Affleck) and a Norwegian Roald Amundsen. Both were trying to become the first man to reach the South Pole in the early 1900s, a pursuit which made headlines all over the world.

No director is attached at this time. It isn't known if either Ben Affleck or Matt Damon have any interest in directing this project, or if they will only produce. Ben Affleck's next directorial effort Argo hits theaters October 12.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are also teaming up on a feature about Boston crime lord Whitey Bulger, with Ben Affleck directing and Matt Damon starring as the criminal.

    I'm a little late to this game, but I'll second "The Terror." It was a little long-winded in parts, but overall it was interesting and an effective page-turner much of the time.

              @narrator It is quite a long read but it is brilliant. If you decide to give it a go I should warn you that there is a bit of the ol supernatural at play but it never comes off as chees. If you decide to get in to it, please let me know what you think.

                  I love stories based on the expeditions to poles. Especially when they are fact based. I recently read a "secret history" novel about the Franklin expedition to discover the NW passage. The expedition was neve rheard from again and is a mystery to this day. Its called The Terror. Dan Simmons fills in the gaps as to what MAY have happened to the crew that set out on that miussion and was never heard from again. Its a great read if you are in to that sort thing
